Stroke: A medical condition where the blood supply to the brain gets interrupted and the brain’s tissues don’t get enough oxygen and nutrients
Dementia: A syndrome that affects memory, thinking and reasoning ability
A recent study in Harward Health, published in November 2021 in PLOS medicine reveals that having moderate amounts of tea and coffee is related to a lower risk of stroke and dementia. Although, some previous studies also show that tea and coffee are involved in the development of stroke and dementia. Since there was no confirmed study about this, researchers investigated the association between tea and coffee and their combination with the risk of developing stroke and dementia.
What was in the study Combination Of Tea And Coffee?

The investigated research included 365,682 participants, from 50-74 years, from the UK. The study continued from 2006-to 2010 and was followed up till 2020. Researchers observed the health and self-reported tea and coffee drinking habits of the participants. They have all had been following this study for 11 years and turning into older adults.
What did the study find?

People who drink 2-3 cups of coffee per day or 3-5 cups of tea per day or 4-6 cups of their combination were at a lower risk of getting stroke and dementia as compared to the participants who do not drink coffee or tea. Later on, it was concluded that the tea-coffee drinkers had 28% lower chances of dementia and 32% lower chances of stroke. The combination of both beverages had more benefits than taking one of them.
Conclusion
This was all about how the combination of tea and coffee prevents stroke and dementia. Nonetheless, the study sounds intriguing, it is just an observational study and does not claim that drinking tea and coffee will prevent people from stroke and dementia. At the same time, both beverages are highly rich in polyphenols, a plant chemical that relieves chronic inflammation- which is associated with heart diseases and dementia. Regardless of the benefits, people should know that these beverages are rich in caffeine too, which is a stimulant and may cause anxiety and sleeping problems. Hence, a moderate amount of both beverages should be consumed for long-term benefits.
